N. Korea Missile Launch - ALLOW IMAGES

All Eyes on N. Korea
“Major Major Conflict Possible”

April 29, 2017

What You Need To Know

The saber rattling on the Korean Peninsula has reached dangerous levels, with North Korea test firing yet another ballistic missile despite repeated condemnation and threats from the international community. According to the U.S. Pacific Command, the missile launch took place at 10:33 AM Hawaii time from the Pukchange Airfield north of Pyongyang. Despite wildly varying mainstream media reports to the contrary, U.S. Pacific Command notes that the missile did not leave North Korean territory before crashing and did not reach the Sea of Japan.

In a highly unusual meeting on Wed, President Trump, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense and the National Intelligence Director provided a classified briefing on the North Korean threat to all 100 U.S. Senators, with many reporting the content of the briefing as grim. According to a joint statement released by Secretary of State Tillerson, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats:

Past efforts have failed to halt North Korea’s unlawful weapons programs and nuclear and ballistic missile tests. With each provocation, North Korea jeopardizes stability in Northeast Asia and poses a growing threat to our allies and the U.S. homeland.?

In an Reuters interview on Thursday, President Trump said that tensions on the Korean Peninsula were reaching a boiling point;

?There’s a chance we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely?

On Friday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned;

“The threat of a North Korean nuclear attack on Seoul or Tokyo is real.”

The senior U.S. Navy officer overseeing military operations in the Pacific region told lawmakers Thursday that the North Korean crisis is the worst he’s seen — testifying that it’s only a matter of time before Kim Jong Un has the capability of launching a nuclear warhead toward the United States.

Also this week, the office of the Prime Minister of Japan waned it’s citizens to prepare, saying that a missile attack from N. Korea could come with less than ten minuets warning.

Earlier in the week, the US military began installation of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in response to the North Korean missile threat. Known by the acronym THAAD, this anti-ballistic missile system is designed to shoot down short, medium, and intermediate range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase using a hit-to-kill approach. The missile carries no warhead, but relies on the kinetic energy of impact to destroy the incoming target. China has repeatedly expressed anger at the deployment given the strength of THAAD’s X Band active electronically scanned array radar that can peer deep into Chinese territory.

Security Reminder: Worldwide there are heightened terror threat levels literally anywhere

Terrorism:
Radicalized Muslims continue to strike targets in Europe and the U.S.. As has been repeatedly demonstrated, these attacks invariably occur without warning. Everyone is
reminded of the USGOV Worldwide Caution issued March 6, 2017. The following excerpt perfect summarizes the scope of the Islamic terror threat facing U.S. citizens and interests:

“Terrorist groups including ISIS, al-Qa’ida, their associates, and those inspired by such organizations, are intent on attacking U.S. citizens wherever they are. Extremists may use conventional or non-conventional weapons to target U.S. government and private interests. Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack to more effectively target crowds, including the use of edged weapons, pistols, and vehicles as weapons. Extremists increasingly aim to assault “soft” targets, such as:

  • high-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
  • hotels, clubs, and restaurants
  • places of worship
  • schools
  • parks
  • shopping malls and markets
  • tourism infrastructure
  • public transportation systems
  • airports “

Given the religious focus of Easter and Passover, churches, synagogues and related facilities need to be particularity vigilant during during services and other gatherings.

North Korea
Events will continued to be monitored on the Korean Peninsula. U.S. and S. Korean government sources indicate N. Korea is believed to have completed preparations for their 6th underground nuclear test. Rhetoric and threats of preemptive strikes continue to fly,
with the latest coming a short time ago from the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army.

Both China and Russia have surged military forces to their respective borders with N. Korea. U.S. forces throughout the region are on high alert.

Truck used in Stockholm, Sweden attack - ALLOW IMAGES

Terror in St. Petersburg and Stockholm
ISIS Calls for More Killing, Theft and Economic Harm

April 8, 2017

Between April 3-7, AlertsUSA issued the following related Flash message to subscriber mobile devices:

4/7 – Swedish PM confirms incident as terror event. Shots fired at Friedhemsplatz, police issuing terror alert, asking for evac of city center. Monitoring..

4/7 – Swedish police: Truck driven into crowd on main shopping street in central Stockholm. Numerous deaths and injuries reported. AlertsUSA monitoring.

4/6 – ISIS releases latest issue of online mag ‘Rumiyah’. Calls on flwrs to kill unbelievers, steal their wealth and cause economic harm to their businesses.

4/3 – Multiple explosions reported, St. Petersburg, Russia metro station. At least 10 deaths and dozens of injuries.

What You Need To Know

On multiple occasions this week AlertsUSA subscribers were notified via SMS messages to their mobile devices regarding security threats. Beginning Monday, subscribers were notified of reports of multiple explosions in the St. Petersburg, Russia metro. In this incident, an improvised explosive device packed with nails went off inside a train car as it was moving between two stations. Reports from both stations led authorities to initially believe there were two explosions. 14 were killed in the blast and more than 50 injured. Eight suspects are currently in custody and additional explosive devices have been discovered during subsequent raids.

Islamic State Magazine ‘Rumiyah’

On Thursday AlertsUSA subscribers were notified of the release of the latest issue of the Islamic State’s online magazine known as Rumiyah. Published in multiple languages, this issue calls on followers to kill unbelievers, steal their wealth and cause economic harm to their businesses. Within an article entitled, ‘The Kafir’s Wealth is Halal, So take It’, the following encouragement is given to readers:

Just as the blood of the kafir is halal to shed, so too is the kafir’s wealth halal to take.

Additional, the article explains:

Whether the financial damage is on an individual kafir or the cause of perpetual loss to a business, the Muslim in Dar al-Kufr (the Land of Disbelief) has the opportunity to follow this blessed sunnah, striking terror by stalking the kuffar and causing them economic harm. There should be no misunderstanding about the excellence of this deed, as taking this wealth is in accordance with the command of Allah.

AlertsUSA cautions business owners and managers that it would be prudent to take note of this call to action and to carefully evaluate your vulnerabilities. Many Muslims want to participate in the jihad (as is mandated in the Koran), but not everyone is inclined to travel to a distant battlefield or become a martyr.

Stockholm Truck Attack

On Friday AlertsUSA subscribers were some of the first in the nation to learn of an incident within which a truck was once again used as a weapon to intentionally mow down pedestrians, this time along a walking mall in Stockholm, Sweden. Four people were killed and 15 others wounded, nine critically. Police have one suspect in custody. Multiple witnesses claim the truck was intentionally being steered back and forth to strike pedestrians before crashing into a upscale department store. Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said all indications were that it was a terror attack.

Readers are reminded that the specific tactic of using cars and trucks to mow down pedestrians has been repeatedly called for by the Islamic State in different publications, internet videos and on social media. It is likely the tempo of such attacks will continue to increase in the U.S. and Europe, necessitating a reminder to maintain a high level of vigilance when in large public gatherings.

AlertsUSA continues to monitor the overall domestic and international threat environment and will immediately notify service subscribers via SMS messages of new alerts, warnings and advisories or any developments which signal a change the overall threat picture for American citizens as events warrant.

U.S. launches cruise missile strike on Syria after chemical weapons attack

President Trump ordered a cruise missile strike against Syria early Friday local time in retaliation for the chemical weapons attack that killed 86 people on Tuesday, according to the Pentagon.

The attack, the first conventional assault on another country ordered by Trump, comes a day after he declared that the chemical weapons assault had “crossed many, many lines,” including causing the deaths of 27 children.

Years of previous attempts to change the behavior of Syrian President Bashar Assad have failed, Trump said from his resort in Palm Beach, Fla.

The missiles, fired from a U.S. Navy vessel in the Mediterranean Sea, struck multiple sites, including the airfield where Syria based the warplanes used in the chemical attack, a Defense official said.

image

The attack essentially follows the plan that the Pentagon had set in September 2013, according to a senior Defense official not authorized to speak publicly about the operation. That plan was devised after President Barack Obama had set a “red line” on the use of chemical weapons.

Assad had used the weapons that killed 1,400 civilians, but Obama did not order an attack. Instead, Assad agreed to turnover his stockpiles of chemical weapons, a pledge he obviously reneged on in light of Tuesday’s use of what experts believe was sarin gas on civilians.

In 2013, military planners had planned to use land-attack cruise missiles launched from Navy destroyers cruising off shore from Syria. For weeks, the Navy had four destroyers floating off shore, waiting for the order to strike that never came.

Using ships negates the need to seek permission from countries where U.S. warplanes are based. Land-attack Tomahawk missiles can travel 1,500 miles to strike their target and carry a warhead with 1,000 pounds of conventional explosives.

Among the options that Pentagon planners had developed for Trump: the airfield, military command-and-control centers, air defense systems and troops.

Any attack puts at risk the hundreds of U.S. special operations troops in eastern Syria who are advising local ground forces in their fight against the Islamic State, or ISIS. The concern, according to the official, is that Assad could order a counter strike, targeting the Americans. There is also the risk that the attack could kill Russian troops who have been supporting the Assad regime.

The Pentagon, which has been bombing ISIS targets in Syria since 2014, can provide extra air patrols to protect those troops. But they still would be vulnerable to attacks by surface-to-surface missiles fired by Syrian forces.

Deadly chemical attack

The strike followed an attack on a rebel-held city in northern Syria with apparent chemical weapons. Autopsies on three Syrians who died after being brought to Turkey for treatment suggest the banned nerve agent sarin was used in the attack, the Turkish Health Ministry said.

Turkey, which also is involved in the fighting, has long pushed for Assad’s ouster.

Russia said the deaths were caused by a Syrian strike on a terrorist chemical lab, but the United States, other nations and human rights groups rejected that claim as baseless.

While Trump has been criticized for cozying up to Russia, officials in that country warned him against military strikes.

“We have to think about negative consequences, negative consequences, and all the responsibility if military action occurred will be on shoulders of those who initiated such doubtful and tragic enterprise,” said Vladimir Safronkov, Russia’s deputy envoy to the United Nations, speaking with reporters at the U.N.

Asked what those consequences might be, the Russian diplomat cited ongoing problems in Iraq and Libya.

Trump had long shared that opinion. He had previously urged the United States to support Assad against rebel groups fighting him, many of which are aligned with al-Qaeda. In 2013, he criticized Obama for contemplating strikes without getting congressional approval. But the images of the dead children spurred an about-face.

Tensions Flare on the Korean Peninsula

April 1, 2017

What You Need To Know

Defense and intelligence organizations worldwide continue to watch the Korean peninsula in anticipation of what is expected to be the reclusive nation’s 6th underground nuclear test. Analysis of commercial satellite imagery of the Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site in the northeast of the country shows that after a week of intensive work at the remote mountain location, the site now appears devoid of activity, with no vehicles, trailers or personnel readily visible. According to specialists with the U.S.-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University, this abrupt change in visible activity could suggest that preparations are complete and that a test could occur at any time.

There is speculation within the intelligence community that N. Korea may have attempt their nuclear test this coming week when China’s President is in the U.S. for two days of meetings with President Trump.

This week North Korea threatened preemptive strikes on U.S. and South Korean troops in response to reports that U.S. and South Korean special operations forces were themselves practicing decapitation strikes as part of the already provocative Foal Eagle combined field training exercise which began March 1st. This year, approximately 3,600 U.S. service members deployed to join the 28,000 U.S. troops already based in South Korea for the annual exercise, which will run through April 30. In total, nearly 300,000 combined troops are involved in the exercise.

A big flare was sent up this week when the Pentagon announced that eight U.S. Marine F-35 fighters are now operating in South Korea as part of the Foal Eagle training exercise, and more are in Japan just a short flight away. This announcement has most certainly caught the attention of the North Koreans as the stealth features of the F-35 make it all but invisible to the entirety of their air defense system. This provides the ability to strike military and infrastructure targets anywhere in the country at will.

Earlier this month, the U.S. began deployment of the advanced THAAD missile defense system to South Korea, a move that has angered China due to the strength of the radar.

AlertsUSA continues to monitor the overall domestic and international threat environment and will immediately notify service subscribers via SMS messages of new alerts, warnings and advisories or any developments which signal a change the overall threat picture for American citizens as events warrant.
