HHS and CDC Receive Additional Flights Carrying Passengers from China

This week, several planes carrying passengers from Wuhan China will arrive in three states. These locations are Travis Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, CA, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, and Eppley Airfield in Omaha, NE.

These planes will be met by a team of CDC personnel deployed there to assess the health of the passengers. The passengers have been screened, monitored and evaluated by medical and public health personnel every step of the way, including before takeoff and during the flight. CDC staff will conduct risk

assessments to ensure the health of each traveler, including temperature checks and observing for respiratory symptoms.

These passengers will be issued quarantine orders upon arrival at their designated quarantine location. This legal order is intended to protect the travelers, their families, and the community. This quarantine order will begin on the day the flight left Wuhan and will continue for up to 14 days. Medical care will be readily available at the first onset of symptoms, if needed.

CDC will work with the state and local public health departments to transport any passenger exhibiting symptoms to a hospital for further evaluation.

CDC is committed to protecting the health and safety of Americans. We continue to believe the immediate risk of coronavirus exposure to the general public is low, however, CDC is undertaking these measures to help keep that risk low. CDC is taking these measures to fully assess and care for these passengers to protect them, their loved ones, and their communities.

‘Coronavirus’ Threat? Yet 15 MILLION people are now INFECTED with something else.

The news has been terrifying.

Chinese officials claiming bodies should be cremated quickly without  funerals, to avoid spreading infection.

The World Health Organization declaring a global health emergency.

Surgical masks selling out in the UK, because people are terrified the virus has come to their country.

And the first cases appearing here in the United States, indicating the coronavirus is spreading here.

But as worrying as all that is, there is another infection, a WORSE infection, that is threatening us right now.

All it takes is for that, PLUS fears of coronavirus, to COLLAPSE our economy – even for just a few weeks…

…and you won’t believe how many people ALREADY have it!

15 Million People Are ALREADY Infected!

image

See, there’s a ‘coronavirus’ style threat that the news ISN’T talking about.

CNN reported just last week that 19 million people are infected so far this year, and the threat is spreading from state to state.

It’s influenza.

That’s right: While everybody’s worrying about coronavirus (and they should be), the flu is already killing people in the United States.

It just doesn’t rate the news, because people don’t think of “the flu” as the deadly threat it really is.

This season alone, the flu has killed 10,000 people in the United States.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases predicts that this flu season will be the worst one in a decade, and at least 140,000 people have already been hospitalized with flu complications.

That number is only going to go up before this flu season is over!

So, why does that matter?

Because if the flu season gets bad enough – and COMBINED with the threat of coronavirus in the United States – we could experience a supply chain collapse.

And no one is talking about this!

A short-term (or even long-term) “collapse” doesn’t usually happen in one giant THUD that wipes everything out in an instant.

Instead, it goes down as a chain-reaction that can be caused by any triggering event.

When any of these very real events are triggered, they will cause a domino effect that will have a very predictable outcome.

All you need is a “trigger event” – and, let me tell you, friend, a record flu season, coupled with the coronavirus breaking out in the US, is one HELL of a trigger.

(The Centers For Disease Control – the CDC – has been trying to warn us for years that we’re LONG overdue for a deadly pandemic!)

The World Is Not Ready for the Next Pandemic

The Next Plague Is Coming. Is America Ready?

The Next Pandemic?

Diseases can spread very quickly across the country through long-distance transportation such as by people using airplanes, trains and even long-distance truck-drivers delivering goods!

Since truckers often stop in the same locations as other truckers for rest, food, re-fueling, and resupply, all it would take is just a few truck-drivers exposed to the coronavirus (or a medicine-resistant strain of the flu) to rapidly spread these diseases throughout the entire trucking industry.

(In fact, I’m ALREADY hearing rumors about Chinese suppliers of consumer goods halting production “temporarily” while the coronavirus has everyone in China afraid! )

Even business are closing doors.

Major fast-food chains and retailers in China are shutting their doors as the deadly coronavirus continues to spread.

Now here’s where things get really scary.

You see, most people don’t realize just how dependent we are on our nation’s truck drivers.

Our entire trucking system is part of our nation’s critical underlying infrastructure that supplies every single household and business with all the things we take for granted, such as food, water, medicines, fuel, repair parts, etc.

Once things start to collapse, it will take only 3 days to go from calm to CHAOS.

There’s way more to this type of chain-reaction collapse than I can cover here.

See, there are LOTS of “triggering events” that can disrupt every town’s supply chain and send our entire infrastructure into a tailspin, turning everyday folks into hungry, desperate “refugees” forced to fend for themselves and their families.

This is why YOU need to be the most prepared person on your block in order to protect yourself and those you love from the dangers that your neighbors don’t even realize are out there.

Don’t wait until the fear of infection shuts down supplies to YOUR town and the grocery store shelves go empty.

Get prepared now while there’s time.

Prepare. Train. Survive.

Start now to make sure you are staying prepared.

CDC begins airport health screenings due to 2019 nCoV virus

CDC begins enhanced health screenings at LAX, SFO & JFK to detect ill travelers on flts direct from / through Wuhan, China due to new coronavirus. See email.

Supplemental Info:

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

WUHAN CHINA NOVEL CORONAVIRUS

On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. Since that date, at least 41 new cases have been identified, as well as one death. Chinese investigators conducted gene sequencing of the virus and have ruled out SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, influenza, avian influenza, adenovirus and other common respiratory pathogens (i.e. a possible new type of coronavirus).

Although the virus was initially thought to be transmitted by animals, the WHO says there is now evidence of human-to-human transmission.

On 13 Jan, the Thai Health Ministry in Bangkok reported that a 61-year-old Chinese woman who had traveled from Wuhan has been been quarantined with the mystery strain, the first time it has been detected outside China.

On 14 Jan, the World Health Organization began warning hospitals worldwide of the possible spread the novel SARS-like China coronavirus.

On 16 Jan, Japan’s health ministry reported their first confirmed case of the coronavirus in a man who had visited Wuhan.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

A major concern for public health officials worldwide is the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, during which the largest annual human migration takes place as Chinese people head home to celebrate the Lunar New Year Spring Festival with their families.

The first day of Chinese New Year starts with the new moon, which for 2020 falls on 25 January.

While the legal holiday lasts 7 days (from the Lunar New Year’s Eve to the sixth day of the first lunar month), many companies and public institutions enjoy a longer holiday up to 10 days or more. It is also a public holiday in countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, North Korea, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam.
During last year’s celebrations, it is estimated that 2.2 BILLION trips were made by automobile, 400 MILLION by rail, and 73 MILLION by air to and from points around the globe.

According to the Chinese travel services company Ctrip, the top five overseas destinations for Chinese New Year tourists are Thailand, Japan, the United States, Singapore and Australia.

Public Health Screening to Begin at 3 U.S. Airports
for 2019 Novel Coronavirus (“2019-nCoV”)

Press Release

January 17, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will implement enhanced health screenings to detect ill travelers traveling to the United States on direct or connecting flights from Wuhan, China. This activity is in response to an outbreak in China caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (2019 nCoV), with exported cases to Thailand and Japan.

Starting January 17, 2020, travelers from Wuhan to the United States will undergo entry screening for symptoms associated with 2019-nCoV at three U.S. airports that receive most of the travelers from Wuhan, China: San Francisco (SFO), New York (JFK), and Los Angeles (LAX) airports.

“To further protect the health of the American public during the emergence of this novel coronavirus, CDC is beginning entry screening at three ports of entry. Investigations into this novel coronavirus are ongoing and we are monitoring and responding to this evolving situation,” said Martin Cetron, M.D., Director of CDC’s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine.

Based on current information, the risk from 2019-nCoV to the American public is currently deemed to be low. Nevertheless, CDC is taking proactive preparedness precautions.

Entry screening is part of a layered approach used with other public health measures already in place to detect arriving travelers who are sick (such as detection and reporting of ill travelers by airlines during travel and referral of ill travelers arriving at a US port of entry by CBP) to slow and reduce the spread of any disease into the United States.

CDC is deploying about 100 additional staff to the three airports (SFO, JFK, and LAX) to supplement existing staff at CDC quarantine stations located at those airports.

CDC is actively monitoring this situation for pertinent information about the source of outbreak, and risk for further spread through person-to-person or animal-to-person transmission. CDC may adjust screening procedures and other response activities as this outbreak investigation continues and more is learned about the newly emerging virus. Entry screening alone is not a guarantee against the possible importation of this new virus but is an important public health tool during periods of uncertainty and part of a multilayered government response strategy. As new information emerges, CDC will reassess entry screening measures and could scale activities up or down accordingly.

On Jan. 11, 2020, CDC updated a
Level 1 Travel Health Notice (“practice usual precautions”) for travelers to Wuhan City and an updated Health Alert to health care professionals and public health partners with new and updated guidance is forthcoming.

China health officials report that most of the patients infected with 2019-nCoV have had exposure to a large market where live animals were present, suggesting this is a novel virus that has jumped the species barrier to infect people. Chinese authorities additionally report that several hundred health care workers caring for outbreak patients are being monitored and no spread of this virus from patients to health care workers has been seen. They report no sustained spread of this virus in the community, however there are indications that some limited person-to-person spread may have occurred. CDC is responding to this outbreak out of an abundance of caution, ready to detect people infected with 2019-CoV.

For the latest information on the outbreak, visit CDC’s
Novel Coronavirus 2019 website.

WHO GUIDANCE FOR HOSPITALS

Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, acting head of WHO’s emerging diseases unit, told a Geneva news briefing earlier today that the agency had given guidance to hospitals worldwide about infection control in case of spread, including by a “super-spreading” event in a health care setting. “This is something on our radar, it is possible, we need to prepare ourselves,” she said.

[ As this virus is so new, some of the guidance below appears to be re-purposed from past related outbreaks. ]

WHO declares Ebola global health emergency

WHO makes formal declaration of a global health emergency for Ebola outbreak in Congo due to a “concerning geographical expansion of the virus.” More via email.

Supplemental Info:

The WHO declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) is extremely rare. The four previous instances of a

PHEIC declaration were 2016 (Zika), 2014 (Ebola), 2014 (Polio), and 2009 (Swine Flu).

A PHEIC is defined by WHO as “an extraordinary event which is determined to constitute a public health risk to other States through the international spread of disease and to potentially require a coordinated international response”. This definition implies a situation that is:

  • serious, sudden, unusual or unexpected;
  • carries implications for public health beyond the affected State’s national border; and
  • may require immediate international action.

We are awaiting information on the DHS / CDC response to the declaration, including possible travel restrictions, increased surveillance at last points of departure to the U.S., as well as ports of entry…

Venezuelan breaking off relations with the US. American diplomatic personnel have 72 hours to leave.

Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro says he is breaking off relations with the US. American diplomatic personnel have 72 hours to leave the country.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he was breaking diplomatic relations with the United States, after the Trump administration recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as the South American country’s interim president.

Speaking to supporters outside the Miraflores presidential palace in Caracas, socialist leader Maduro said he would give U.S. diplomatic personnel 72 hours to leave Venezuela, which is suffering from a hyperinflationary economic collapse.

Earlier Wednesday, the Trump administration ratcheted up pressure on Maduro on Wednesday, announcing U.S. recognition of Guaido as interim president and signaling potential new sanctions against its vital oil sector.

With street protests against Maduro underway across Venezuela, Trump said the United States recognized Guaido, head of the opposition-controlled Congress, as the country’s leader and called socialist Maduro’s government “illegitimate.”

“I will continue to use the full weight of United States economic and diplomatic power to press for the restoration of Venezuelan democracy,” Trump said in a statement, encouraging other governments in the Western Hemisphere to also recognize Guaido.

The administration had been waiting to issue its announcement after Guaido had been sworn in as the country’s temporary president on Wednesday, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Venezuelan opposition sympathizers had been urging Guaido to assume the presidency since Maduro was inaugurated to a second term on Jan. 10 following a widely boycotted election last year that the United States and many other foreign governments described as a fraudulent.

Guaido, a newcomer on the national scene who was elected to head Congress on Jan. 5, had said earlier he was willing to replace Maduro if he had the support of the military, with the aim of then calling for free elections.

U.S. officials in recent days had stated openly that Maduro no longer had a legitimate claim on power.

This story is developing.

Venezuela has been the example of what can happen to a country and the actions governments can take when things get bad.
